Now in full swing, the organizational machine for the Zigulí Test Event FEI Endurance European Championship, is scheduled to take place from August 29 to 31 in Castiglione del Lago with the start and finish lines located at the former Eleuteri airport,  The setup of the large equestrian endurance village covers 3.500 square meters, featuring 37 control points, 9 crew points, 7 water points, and more than 150 volunteers along the entire race course.

Dress Rehearsal for 2025

These significant figures underline the scale of this challenging sporting event, which serves as a dress rehearsal for the 2025 European Championship. The organizing committee, Italia Endurance, ensures a green event, aligned with best practices in sustainable sports, planned in collaboration with the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago, the Department of Agriculture of the Umbria Region, the AFOR Regional Forestry Agency of Umbria, and Umbraflor.

“The responsibility for organizing major sporting events like the Zigulí Test Event FEI Endurance European Championship extends beyond safety to include respect for the hosting territories. We are optimizing logistics to ensure the best conditions of safety and comfort for the riders and horses registered for the race, as well as for all others involved, including technicians, partners, and visitors who are passionate about equestrian sports,” explained the event director Gianluca Laliscia.

“Additionally, in collaboration with institutions and some local companies, we have planned interventions to minimize the environmental impact, which represents a true investment in enhancing the areas that host us. These actions include maintenance, grass cutting, and cleaning of roads and trails along the 160 km race course, which runs entirely within the municipality of Castiglione del Lago. All of this will make the course safer and more functional, provide a beautiful image of our region and its landscapes, and remain beneficial for the community as a whole for hiking and outdoor tourism. Furthermore, all technical installations are temporary, and the green area of the former airport will be restored to its full beauty and handed back to the community after the event.”

The goal of the Organizing Committee and its public and private partners is to make equestrian endurance a significant driver of growth and promotion for Umbria, through an increasingly efficient use of the economic and natural resources of the territories capable of hosting such events. Endurance, indeed, is a sport that fosters respect and protection of ecosystems and natural areas and promotes sustainable and conscious tourism, while also supporting the local economy.
