TM Reagan Bret fends off Waddah

March 12, 2014,  Doha ~ Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS Qahir (Martin Al Maury x Af A’ajabatani) was by ridden by jockey Salim Golam to a comfortable victory in the 1200m Local Bred Pure Arabian Graduation Plate at the Racing and Equestrian Club on Wednesday, March 12. After being a handy second behind Al Khabar, AJS Qahir surged ahead in the straight to win from Hassiba and Khalfa.

 Ahmed Kobeissi schooled TM Reagan Bret (Burning Sand x FC Bint Cheziwas) had a brilliant ride by jockey Evert Pheiffer to a thrilling win in the Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 60 to 90. Though Umm Qarn’s Waddah put in a spirited effort, Pheiffer and TM Reagan Bret were up to the task and warded off the challenge to score a shorthead victory. Kasih brought in third.

Trainer Jassim Al Ghazali and Dubai based jockey Harry Bentley were prominent in the opening two races of the day. Their first victory came through Princess Maya who shed her maiden status with a stylish win in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate. Though Charlie’s Wish threatened to run away with the race, Bentley timed his challenge to a nicety and overhauled the front runner in the shadow of the winning post to win by three fourths of a length.

Bentley once again was simply brilliant astride Ras Al Qimmah (Hatteen x Al Naamah) when he thwarted a serious threat by Zallal in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 50 and below.

Majid Safedeen trained Majd came up with a dazzling display while clinching the Halul Island Cup, a local Thoroughbred Conditions raceJockey Alberto Sanna was astride the winner, who clocked a smart time of one minute 12.63 seconds for the six furlong trip. Araam took the second place ahead of Al Mazrooah.
