Racing continues at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club through May 1
16 April 2014, Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC), Doha ~ In the 6 Furlongs Umm Al Zubar Cup Pure Arabian Conditions race for Fillies and Mares it was TM Raegan Bret (Burning Sand – FC Bint Chezi) under Salim Golam that took possession of the sand track, gradually strengthening, and pulling ahead in the stretch to finish neatly ahead of Hassiba under Marco Monteris by 2.5 lengths. Third in was Barwa. Also ran, Candahar, Al Wasmiya, Rash Al Qimmah, and Vetlana De Faust. TM Reagan Bret filed the same report on April 9 winning the P/A Plate. The 4-yr-old filly is owned by Mr. Mohammed Kazim Al Ansari & Sons and trained by Ahmed Kobeissi.
Majid Safedeen trained Al Uraiq (Nizam x Ninou De Carrere) hit the limelight in a pillar to post win of the Fuweirat Cup Pure Arabian Conditions race. Taking a good jump, jockey Alberto Sanna guided Al Uraiq to the front and called the shots to the rivals. Once into the home turn, Al Uraiq sported a pair of wings and sped away to leave the others to fight for minor placings. Al Uraiq won by five lengths from Harran and AJS Qahir.
Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari owned Hab Reeh with J. Guilliambret up was a runaway winner of the Pure Arabian race Handicap for trainer Jassim Ghazali for horses rated 40 to 70 run over 1,200 metres. AJS Ghazi and Haizum finished second and third respectively.
In the opening event of the day, Tamim Mohammed Ahmed Al Badi owned Ashkal broke through the maiden ranks with an impressive victory in the Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. The six-year-old bay mare recorded her first win in her 25th start.
Thoroughbreds on the card
Safedeen trained Glossy Posse recorded an emphatic victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 60 to 80. Jockey Darren Williams was astride the winner, while Dubai Sunshine, Rising Dawn and Late Debate completed the frame.
Salem Fadgam Al Hajri & Sons owned Michael’s Song was a pillar to post winner of the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 0 to 60. Blue Twister and Amphora finished second and third respectively. Jockey Suerland was astride the winner.
The Local Thoroughbreds Handicap for horses rated 0 to 50 witnessed a thrilling contest. Osama Omar Al Dhafa owned and trained Al Zubara was ridden by jockey Marvin Suerland to an exciting win over Barraq. Though Barraq had established a useful lead, Suerland brought Al Zubara with a brilliant stretch run to engage the front runner in a fierce contest. After a grueling tussle for supremacy, Al Zubara got the better of Barraq in virtually the last stride of the race.
