Algiers latest stop on HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival
14 May 2017, Algiers, Algeria ~ The Global Arabian Racing Festival has now included Algeria as Marabouh Almisk and Ghilas won the two races organized by the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival at the Al Kharouba race course in Algiers on Saturday, 13 May.
Marabouh Almisk won the €5000 Wathba Stallions Cup with 11 horses in the fray and led a 1-2-3 finish for owner Ahmed Fegholi. He finished in the time of 2:41.61 nearly two lengths ahead of Adahis de Croats while in third place was a horse named Drug.
In the second race, also a Wathba Stallions Cup but over a shorter distance of 1600 metres for locally-bred Purebred Arabians, Ghilass (Kalgon et Machka)finished first. Anwar ran into second place while in third was Iraq, the horses vying for a slice of the €5,000 on offer.
The two races under the Festival’s umbrella were the first in Algeria and held as per directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
HE Ahmed Ali Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Algeria, Ms. Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, Chairperson of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA), Chairperson of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) and Ahmed Ryan, General Manager of Horse Racing Committee in Algeria, distributed the prizes.
The UAE envoy HE Al Zaabi thanked HH Sheikh Mansoor for bringing the Festival to Algeria. “We enjoy strong relations with Algeria and these races will be a huge boost to Purebred Arabian racing here,” he said.
Ms. Lara Sawaya said, “After the grand success of the Festival’s World Arabian Horse Racing Conference in Marrakesh and the Festival’s races there, Algeria is the next success for us. HH Sheikh Mansoor is keen that Arabian horses all over the globe and their racing events are promoted.”
The Wathba Stud Farm Cup is now the Wathba Stallions Cup named after the breeding arm of Purebred Arabian horses of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

These races will carry prize funds of Euros 5,000 each and is aimed to promote Purebred Arabian racing at the grassroots level.”
