The second annual Arabian Horse Celebration was held in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exhibition Center in Louisville, Kentucky on September 17-21, 2013. This week-long event focused on many aspects of owners and lovers of the Arabian horse and highlighted many of the various disciplines at which the Arabian horse excels. Daily events included educational forums, demonstrations on varied topics of the history of the Arabian horse, and veterinary and health issues. The Exhibit Hall showed off a feast of fair for shoppers, as well as four days of the premier Arabian Horse Show.
The Starting Gate Gala at Churchill Downs with cocktails and dinner in the Stakes Room at the track opened the weeks’ festivities. The evening was highlighted by the video replay of the UAE President’s Cup race that was held on June 15, Stephen Foster Day at Churchill Downs.
The multiple Stakes winning mare, Whos Your Daddy, represented Arabian racing in the Parade of Disciplines that was held two mornings of the event, as well as during a seminar that was held on racing on Thursday of the show.
Whos Your Daddy is by The Fast Lane out of the *Mellon daughter Mellonah. She started her racing career in 2004 as a three-year old. She raced for six years at the highest levels of Arabian racing with 46 starts, 9 first place finishes, 10 seconds and 14 thirds. She raced in 11 stakes races and placed first, second or third in all 11. Her career earnings of $165,633 rank her in the top ten money earners for fillies and mares in U.S. racing history.
Whos Your Daddy was the hit of the parade of disciplines and received the loudest and most enthusiastic applause from the crowd. The Racing Seminar topics included conformation traits of the successful Arabian race horse, the intangible factor that heart and the will to win contributes, as well as various careers for race bred Arabians outside of racing and after a horse’s racing career. The Seminar also covered ways to get into racing through single ownership or Partnerships and highlighted the venues that are available for races as well as return on investment opportunities in racing.
Seminar speakers on Arabian racing were Kathy Smoke, Arabian Jockey Club President, and Susan Meyer, Arabian Jockey Club Vice President.
