30 August 2016, United Kingdom ~ Shadwell sadly announced the passing of one of the best Arabian racing performers and sires, AL SAKBE.
AL SAKBE was bred in France by Mrs Nada Mousalli in 1995. By the great stallion KESBEROY, AL SAKBE was from the same family as Group winners MADOUA DE PIBOUL, MAGIC DE PIBOUL, MAKZAN, PEPE LE MOCCO, AL MOUWAFFAK, etc.
Trained by Arnaud Chaille-Chaille in Europe and Kiaran McLaughlin in the UAE, AL SAKBE had an outstanding race record. Among his eleven wins out of eighteen starts, he won the Coupe du Sud-Ouest des Pur-sang Arabes (Bordeaux le Bouscat), the Prix du Président des Émirats Arabes Unis (Chantilly), the Coupe d’Europe et des Émirats Arabes Unis (Maisons-Lafitte), the Al Maktoum Challenge Round I (Nad Al Sheba) and the Dubai International Stakes (Newbury, twice).
Shadwell director Richard Lancaster said: “AL SAKBE was a top performer for Sheikh Hamdan who showed he was amongst the best of his generation both in Europe and the UAE. We hope his legacy will live on through his sons and daughters. Certainly AL JAKBAR is showing early promise in his stud career.”
Retired to stud in 2002 at Haras de Saint Faust, his best progeny include Group performers SHADIYDA (Emirates Championship, Gr.1 PA, Abu Dhabi), AL HIBAAB (Dubai International Stakes, Gr.1 PA, Newbury), AL MOUTAWAKILA and AL SAKLAWIYA (respectively first and second of the Arabian Trophy des Juments, Gr.1 PA, Longchamp).
At stud, his legacy is carried on by Shadwell stallion AL JAKBAR, Group 1 PA winner in France and sire of winners including AGHSAAN (ARO Cup, Gr.3 PA, Newbury; second in the Dubai Duty Free Hatta International Stakes, Gr.1 PA, Newbury and in the H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, Gr.1 PA, Sandown).
