27 June 2017, Sweden ~ Bro Park racecourse in Sweden was the destination for the latest round of DIAR prep races on Tuesday evening, with the François Rohaut-trained SHA’HIR landing the feature Group 3 PA DIAR Stockholm Arabian Cup.
The athletic son of Amer was ridden close to the pace by Mickael Forest and readily asserted in the straight to run out an easy winner.
“He was very impressive,” said Rohaut. “It is unlikely that he will head to Newbury, as I feel I have better horses at home for July. He will go to Deauville with the rest of the Newbury horses and we will see what happens. We will decide closer to the time.”
Rohaut also saddled RAWAH to win the first race on the card, the DIAR Arabian Fillies and Mares Turf, and like Sha’hir, carried the colors of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Rohaut was not the only trainer to saddle a double on Tuesday night. Pia Höiom got in the act with ISHRAAQ winning the UAE Embassy Trophy, and BASHAIR, winner of the Shadwell Arabian Stallions Sprint.
The first three home in each of the four Arabian races qualify for the bonus scheme at Newbury on Sunday 30th July. If a qualified horse wins at Newbury, they will land a bonus on top of the stated prize money.
Tom Pennington, Nominations and Marketing Manager at Shadwell, said: “This is the second year we have staged DIAR prep races in Sweden and I would like to say a big thank you to the connections of the runners for their continued support, especially when they have come from as far and wide as France and Holland. These races play an important role in encouraging participation at Newbury and it’s good to hear several trainers say they will be making the trip in July.”
