On a beautiful sunny California Saturday, Reign Supreme CS (Kador De Blaziet x Reign Dance PW by Monarach AH) showed her speed for the 6 Furlong Maiden Special Weight, taking the win from the field of seven with apparent ease. Jockey Marcia Stortz, making her comeback after a 10-year absence from the saddle, seemed at ease as she took advantage of a quick break from the gate to guide the the 3-year-old Texas bred to the front. The filly, owned by the partnership of Forbes-Robinson and Nicola and Jim Schleimer, opened a three length lead driving for home, leaving the favorite, Laurie Lu under Chris Russell, and the challenger, Vaz Djets On under Barrington Harvey, trying to keep up with the pace. Vaz Djets On, trained by Helen Shelley made it home for second, followed by the Diana Skinner trained, Laurie Lu.smwin2IMG_2701

“I had so much horse,” said Stortz. “She broke strong and I got in front where I didn’t intend to be, but I had so much horse, she did it easily. This is my sixth or seventh Arabian race and I’m loving it. I rode 10 years ago for  one year and won 54 races, and I’ve been back since the middle of June.” The winning time was 1:18:97.

Proud owner, Jim Schleimer said, “I bought this horse from the breeder, Eric Moreau-Sipiere and I brought her to California about three months ago. This is her second race and she kept her head together to win.” GishSchleimerbookIMG_2723
