Vahess du Croate prevailed once more tonight, she led all the way from the start to finish in front of Myra de Monlau. Ghalit Al Khalediah (Khalid El Biwaibiya) finished third, with Najmaah(Sire d’Albret) back in fourth place. Volga de Faust (Munjiz), unbeaten in two starts this season, disappointed to finish last.

Christian Baillet, the winner’s trainer was delighted.  “She was unbeaten in her last two races for Ana Imaz-Ceca (her trainer in 2012) and it is not always easy. In the end she beat the fillies she was beating last year. I am very hopeful she’ll progress for the run and this result is all the more pleasing that she did not have an ideal preparation, I could only train her on the all-weather due to the rain we had.”

MUSHRAE EASY WINNER OF THE FIRST GROUP RACE OF THE SEASON IN FRANCE

Christophe Soumillon rode Mushrae (Munjiz) when he won the Qatar Total Arabian Trophy des Poulains (Gr.1 PA) last season and he came all the way from Marseille tonight, where he was riding earlier, to partner him again in this race. For his first outing of the season, HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s horse was patiently ridden on the far rail in midfield, led by the Tunisian horse Brahim (Darman) and Hilal Al Zaman (Mencour). Coming into the straight he went to the front to win easily by 2.5 lengths. Vulcain du Clos (Monsieur Al Maury) finished second confirming his form at the end of last year, with Poulain Kossack (Nougatin) back in third place.

His trainer Jean-Pierre Totain stated after the race:  “I did not think he would win so easily. He is one of the best horse I have ever trained. Last year, for his first race, I had instructed his jockey not to use his whip and he finished second. He then finished fourth in the Coupe de France des Chevaux Arabes (Gr.1 PA) at Chantilly, the distance of 1.600m was too short. He finished second in the Al Rayyan Cup – Prix Kesberoy (Gr.1 PA) for his next race, where his jockey lost his whip at the furlong marker… I was never hard on him as a three-year-old because he was immature. I was very impressed by what he did tonight. He won in three strides.”
