Seasoning is the flavor for Paddys Day win
3 October 2020, Pimlico Race Course, USA ~ The nine-year-old PADDYS DAY ridden by Alex Cintron proved he was still the best of the field on the race run directly after the Preakness Stakes Gr 1 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
Cintron placed Paddys Day well, always in the first few runners, as Uptown Cruise Director under Forest Boyce took the lead around the course. In the stretch Paddys Day advanced along the rail and presented a dedicated challenge which could not be bested. Uptown Cruise Director finished second followed in by Uptown Sandy Girl in third ridden by Jose Garcia. Paddys Day (Burning Sand x AK Loretta x Virgule Al Maury) is trained by Nicole Ruggeri and was bred and is owned by Jane Teutsch.
Trainer Ruggeri was thrilled to accept Paddys Day to prepare for this race. She said, “We did loads of therapy right away and treatments hoping to have him feeling his best. Paddys Day came out of the race fresh. We expected good fractions and were very pleased. He has so much heart and looks great today. We will let him rest and revive before moving him. Alex rode a very calculated race and did such a good job.
After a whirlwind international racing career in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in 2018, Paddys Day has been lightly raced with only two other outs this year which included a nice win this August over a mile at Lone Star Park in Texas.
Ruggeri commented: “I like to rest them a lot and not do too many races. He is seasoned so I wasn’t worried about all the time off. This race was our goal and we will hopefully get invited to the Kahayla Classic.”
Also ran in order: Madjikman, Quick Sand AA, Bellfastt, Kissouur, Dance With Me BW, RB Rich Lyke Me, Iridesse, Lazur Hess, and Colors In Motion
The winning time for the 1 1/16 mile on dirt was: 1:54:66.
