Madjani (2000-2019)

Shadwell is sad to announce the death of one of its most respected Arabian stallions, MADJANI

Madjani

15 April 2019 ~ The son of TIDJANI was bred in France from a very successful family with Tunisian roots that has produced many successful racehorses, such as AL JAKBAR, TORNADOR, NOUR THABET and AL SAKBA.
MADJANI started his racing career with a winning debut at 3 in France, for his owner-breeder Pierre Hoyeau. He then joined champion trainer Gill Duffield’s stables in the UAE and raced in the colours of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His racing career ended after 13 victories and three second places in 17 starts.
MADJANI won seven Group 1 PA races: he is the only colt who has won the Dubai Kahayla Classic three times, he has won the HH The President Cup (Gr.1 PA) in Abu Dhabi twice in consecutive years, as well as the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 twice. He was crowned Horse of the Year in the UAE in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
After these unparalleled performances, he retired to stud in France, at Haras de Saint Faust, at the end of 2008.
During his ten years at stud, he has sired winners worldwide in France, Morocco, the UK, UAE, USA, Sweden, Qatar, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Turkey, including Group winners HANDASSA (Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3, Gr.1 PA, twice), AL ZAHIR (HH The President Cup, Gr.1 PA, twice), RB FRYNCH BROAD (Gr.2) and stakes performers MADJIKMAN, CITRONNIER DE GHAZAL, BON BAISER DE FAUST, ALAZEEZ, MERLOT MHF, RB MADJYK MAN, NIRAAN, RB MOOSE, MADGICALL, among many other winners.
Recently, his condition deteriorated rapidly after serious complications and the difficult decision has been made to perform euthanasia on humane grounds.
Richard Lancaster, director of Shadwell, commented: “MADJANI was a great racehorse and stands alongside the very best Arabians to run in the colours of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. To win three Kahayla Classics in such competitive times was truly exceptional. He was a lovely character with a great temperament. I am sure his memory will live on through the stock he leaves behind.
“HANDASSA, MADJANI’s best son at stud, will be traveling to France in the following fortnight to stand at Haras de Saint Faust. We trust that he will carry on the legacy of his sire. We encourage breeders who intended to breed their mares to MADJANI to contact us or Haras de Saint Faust to discuss their options for the current breeding season.”
MADJANI will be remembered as one of the very best Arabian racehorses and one of the greatest and most respected sire. He will be missed by all.
