January 11, 2014, Headline from LAUREL, Maryland, USA ~ Due to weather conditions in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. markets, live racing at Laurel Park has been cancelled for Saturday, January 11.

 “With the temperature going from the single digits early in the week to nearly 60F (15C) today, the track has been freezing, thawing and freezing again,” Maryland Jockey Club Director of Racing Georganne Hale said. “The combination of the freezing and the moisture are the contributing factors. We couldn’t even get a piece of equipment out on the track. They were just sinking.”

 Laurel and its sister track, Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting. Live racing is scheduled to resume Wednesday, January 15 with a 12:35 p.m. EST post time.
