In a steady push to the finish, it was Lady Princess (General x Nacree Al Maury by Kesberoy) trained by Thomas Fourcy and ridden by Jim Crowley that collected the win by three lengths, racing from the back of the field in this AED 5 Million 2200m Gr 1 Championship race. The five year old bay mare is owned by Qatar’s Khalifa bin Sheill Al Kuwari and was bred in France by EARl Du Champ Ginioux & Elodie Bellaud. Lady Princess is rated 124. The turf race was won in 2:26:26.
The determined mare beat out Hoggar De L’Ardus ridden by Maxime Guyon, switching placings with the 4 year old also trained by Fourcy that had beaten her by a neck in the Longchamps Qatar Arabian World Cup in October. Lady Princess found the more stable turf ground in Abu Dhabi more to her liking on this evening.
Keeping up well in the determined field of Grade 1 runners, Hayyan finished third under regular rider Ioritz Mendizabal and fourth was the able Soko trained by Helal Alalawi.
Winner of the 2020 Jewel Crown, Messi under Patrick Dobbs, missed the race due to lameness according to trainer Timo Keersmaekers.
