29 January 2014, Doha ~ On 28 January, the last day of the month’s racing at Qatar Equestrian & Racing Club, the H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Refaal (Majd Al Arab x Dixie Darlene) with Richard Mullen up dominated the first race to win the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. After hitting the front from the word go, the smart trainee was in no danger of being caught as he cantered away to win by three lengths from Namaah. Batel and Dheram Al Naif finished third and fourth respectively.
H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Meghwaar (Kerbella x Djamour Des Forges) was an impressive winner in the Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 50 to 80. The Smart-trained Meghwaar, making a second for Mullen, shot to the lead inside the final furlong and stretched away to win in fine fashion. Ashkal finished second ahead of Giude Al Khal.
Al Jasra Stud’s Mekhbatt (Burning Sand x Gardenia Gora) was a comfortable winner of the Local Bred Pure Arabian Advanced Plate. The Badr Al Abid trained Mekhbatt was ridden to victory by jockey Pier Convertino. Hab Reeh took the second place ahead of Hassiba.
Thoroughbred racing
Osama Omar Al Dhafa owned and trained Man Amongst Men was runaway winner in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate guided by jockey Cedric Segeon.
Mubarak Saeed Aljafai Al Naimi owned Goldenrod was another impressive winner of the day under Alberto Sanna in the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate.
Ali Bin Adel Al Muslamani owned Defendant was taken to victory by Tadgh O’Shea in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 60 to 80.
Al Murqab Stud’s Peter Anders was ridden by Marvin Suerland to victory in the Thoroughbred Conditions race.
H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Wonder of Qatar clinched his first career win with a runaway victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for three year olds.
