6 August 2017, Copenhagen, Denmark ~ Top Danish apprentice jockey Ina Toverud brought Eastway home to win the fifth round of the HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race at the Kloppenburg racecourse, Denmark on Saturday, 5 August 2017.
The 1400-metre race had attracted a quality field of eight runners and the top weight Eastway ran away with the race ending with a win time of 1:37:70. Second in was Jaldi Karo ridden by Karlina Dynarowska and third came Mad Makz under Swedish apprentice Silja Storen.
The UAE ambassador to Denmark, Fatima Al Mazrouei and Ms. Lara Sawaya, Director of the Festival, General Manager of Wathba Stallions, Chairperson of the Int’l Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) and Chairperson of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR), crowned the winners after the end of the exciting race.
“We are obliged to HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, for their strong support and backing to this equestrian sport which is part of the history and culture of the UAE,” said the UAE ambassador Fatima Al Mazrouei.
Ms. Lara Sawaya commented: “We are delighted with the great success that has been achieved by this young lady for her country Denmark. In Copenhagen, we have discovered two champion ladies, Veronika who has proved herself in the fifth round of the competition and the 12-year-old Salma who will compete in the HH Sheikha Lateefa Bint Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ponies championship race which has been created this season under the directives of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is the first competition of its kind in the world and has been reserved for the 8-12 years old boys and girls. The Swedish rider who won the race in Sweden and Salma are officially invited for the finals in Abu Dhabi.”
The race was held as part of the ninth edition of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.
