The strong pace showed no signs of slowing during Friday’s 11th session of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale.

On Friday a total of 236 yearlings were sold for $4,103,000, up 127.3 percent from the 11th session last year, which marked the final day of the 2012 sale. The average price of $17,386 was 40.6 percent above last year’s $12,363, while the median price of $12,000 rose 20 percent from $10,000 in 2012.

Cumulatively, 2,549 yearlings have been sold for $277,578,100, up 26.3 percent from the $219,723,000 grossed for the entire 11-day sale in 2012 when 2,516 yearlings were sold. The average of $108,897 increased 24.7 percent over last year’s $87,330, while the median of $57,000 shows a 26.7 percent gain over $45,000 in 2012.

The final horse through the ring on Friday is indicative of the staying power of the auction.  The yearling, a colt by Forestry, sold for $35,000 to Dr. Barry and Shari Eisaman’s Eisaman Equine of Williston, Fla. Eisaman Equine, which specializes in pinhooking its yearling purchases, has bought 30 yearlings over the course of the past 11 days to lead all buyers in number of horses purchased. Eisaman’s first acquisition came on Sept. 9, opening day of the sale.

Claiborne Farm, agent, consigned Friday’s session-topper, a daughter of Broken Vow sold to Michonne Farm for $85,000. The filly is out of the Storm Cat mare Ranter, a half-sister to leading sire Pulpit, winner of the 1997 Toyota Blue Grass (G2) at Keeneland.

The day’s second-highest price of $75,000 was paid by Federico Barberini, agent, for a colt by First Defence out of the Officer mare Major Allie. Eaton Sales, agent, consigned the colt.
