11 March 2015, Doha ~ HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Ghizwan (Amer x Margouia) was trapped on the rail for much of the ride but jockey Richard Mullen urged him through the crowd and he managed a brilliant burst of speed in the final furlong, overhauling the front runners to win the Doha Cup. The Local Bred Pure Arabian Conditions race, the highlight of the races on the sand track of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club on Wednesday, 11 March, was 1800meters. Maazouz finished one length behind the winner as runner-up while Mekhbatt and Rassan finished third and fourth respectively.
Jassim Mohamed Al Gazali & Sons owned Al Waab (Al Mudaffar x Karreema) was ridden to victory by jockey Harry Bentley in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. The Jassim Al Ghazali trained gelding held on gamely to win by a head from a Sirat Al Naif to take his maiden win in 12 starts. Ghazwat Dukhan and Al Aayaar finished third and fourth respectively.
In a keen tussle for supremacy, Zakhir Stud’s Zameer (Dahess x Djurdjura) overtook Sahaba Al Uraiq in the final strides to prevail by a neck to win the Pure Arabian Graduation Plate. The Mohammed Salama trained Zameer was ridden to victory by jockey Gerald Avranche, while Bambino Du Pouy finished third ahead Al Khattaf.
Umm Qarn’s Waddah under Pier Convertino, ran on strongly inside the last 200 metres to thwart the bid of Qassy in the Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 70 to 100. After a stirring duel in the final 50 metres, Waddah prevailed to win by a neck. Saint De Faust and Meghwaar completed the frame.
Thoroughbred racing
Hussain Ali Bukanan owned Emaad galloped to a stylish victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 65 to 85, run over 1800 metres.
Osama Omar Al Dhafa-owned and trained Man Amongst Men ridden by Pier Convertino came through to victory in the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate.
Dhafi Al Ardi Al Marri owned Succeed And Excel was a pillar to post winner of the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 50 to 70.
Shaheen Bin Khalid Shaheen Al Ghanim owned Silver Ranger recorded a smashing victory in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate.
