2 February 2017, Doha, Qatar ~ On 2 February at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Center, Julian Smart’s Gazwan (Amer x Arc De Ciel) stayed unbeaten in Qatar this season with a comfortable win in the 2000m run and in the process fired a warning shot to his rivals three weeks before HH The Emir’s Sword Racing Festival, 23-25 February.

In the only Arabian race on the Thursday card, Alan Munro, wearing the silks of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, guided the 6-yo to a two-length victory over Umm Qarn’s Tayf ridden by Gaetan Faucon. Gazwan, winner of last year’s HH The Emir’s Sword (Gr1 PA), has won eight of his previous 10 outings with runner-up finishes in the remaining two races. Spaghetti, winner of the 2016 HH The Emir’s Silver Sword, completed the top three for trainer Jassim Mohammed Ghazali.
