One of Britain’s most famous sportsmen, Frankie Dettori MBE, is to be the official ambassador for Newmarket Racecourses in 2015
13 April 2015, UK ~ Frankie has been one of the world’s top jockeys for over a quarter of a century with more than 200 Group 1 triumphs and has been associated with many of the top horses of recent years including Authorized, Daylami, Dubai Millennium, Lochsong and Singspiel.
Born in Italy, he has lived in Newmarket for more than 30 years. Newmarket Racecourses have on a dozen occasions been the stage for one of his renowned flying dismounts to celebrate a Group 1 victory including the first two Classics of the year staged at the Home of Horseracing – the QIPCO sponsored 1000 and 2000 Guineas.
Frankie Dettori comments: “It’s fantastic to take on the role of ambassador. I love Newmarket Racecourses. The town is my home and I have wonderful memories of many victories, not least my five winners in the QIPCO 1000 and 2000 Guineas.

Frankie, an avid follower of Arsenal football club, has been crowned Champion Flat Jockey three times during his distinguished career and he has won almost every major international race.
He began his career in Newmarket with Luca Cumani, who still trains in the town, and became the first apprentice jockey since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in a season.
On one day in 1996 at Ascot Racecourse he won every single race – a feat remembered as ‘The Magnificent Seven’.
Born in Milan he is the son of a famous jockey and a circus performer. He has a Doctor of Science from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
