Quarter Horse and Paint and Appaloosa Races are the remainder of the Friday races with standout prize money for the 14th running of the Grade 1, $39,450 Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity for 2-yr-old Paint & Appaloosa horses going 350 yards. The field was decided by timed trials on October 26, with the fastest 10 earning a place in the futurity.

Saturday, 9 November is closing night

Lone Star Park welcomes back top Quarter Horse Racing personality Martha Claussen. She will be on hand covering the stakes action, plus she and Lone Star Park Track Handicapper Rick Lee will hold a pre-race handicapping seminar on the first level of the grandstand covering the entire 12-race card. Claussen will also conduct live post-race interviews in the winner’s circle with the winning connections of each of the featured stakes races.

The stakes action kicks off with Race 8, the 8th running of the $47,612 Texas Classic Juvenile Stakes for 2-yr-olds at 400 yards.

Race 9 is the inaugural running of the $30,000 Paragon Oaks for fillies & mares, 3-yr-olds & up going 400 yards. This race has a special bonus. The winning owner will receive a free breeding to 2018 Texas Classic Futurity winner, Flying Cowboy 123.

Race 10 & 11 with $Purse of $344,571 and $904,631

Race 10 is for Three Year Olds Which Have Remained Eligible And Have Qualified For The Texas Classic Derby. Four Hundred And Forty Yards and Prize money of $344,571.

Race 11, the premier race of the meeting and the richest horse race in Texas, is the 21st edition of the Grade 1, $904,631 Texas Classic Futurity for 2-yr-olds at 400 yards. Like the derby, the fastest 10 from trials that were held Saturday, October 19, make up the field.

Season Leaders include Rosebrook Farms LLC in Owner’s Category

The 2019 season leaders at this point are, in the jockey category, Francisco Calderon has a slight lead with 16 wins though last Saturday, but he will have to watch out for Juan Francisco Garcia, Jr. and Noe Villatoro. They are tied in second place with 13 wins each. With 24 races remaining anything could happen. The trainer standings currently have last year’s leader, Josue Ponce on top with 11 wins, but he is only one win up on Angel Sanchez who has 10. Arabian race breeder Rosebrook Farms LLC has the lead in the owner’s category with six wins to second placed. Fabian Hernandez has four. The leaders will be presented on closing night.
