April 2, 2014, Doha ~ On the second day of April at the Qatar Equestrian and Racing Club the crowd saw Hassiba (Burning Sand x Gefool ASF) clinching an impressive victory over Kafayef in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. The Hassan Ali Hassan al-Matwi owned and trained finally shed her maiden status in her sixth start.
Sheail Bin Khalifa al-Kuwai owned Ras Al Qimmah (Hatteen x Al Naamah) was ably ridden by Deccan Cannon to victory in the Pure Arabian Handicap Rated 50 and below. Ras Al Aimmah raced a handy second behind Ladys Sandman who headed the field. On the top of the straight Ras Al Aimmah came up with a strong challenge with jockey Cannon pulling out the stick. Once into top gear, the Ghazali’s trainee stretched away to beat Mowhoubat Al Zaidy by half a length.
Ghazali went on to record a double with Thawih (Mared Al Sahra x Gardenia Gora) to win in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Advanced Plated, run over 1,800 metres. Mekhbatt attempted to overhaul the leader but found the winner too good on the day.
In the Thoroughbred races Osama Omar al-Dhafa owned and trained One More Roman (Holy Roman Emperor x Satulagi) that proved superior to the opposition on an unusual sloppy track while winning the Al Shahania Cup, a Thoroughbred Handicap rated 70-90 race run over nine furlongs on Wednesday, April 2 on the sand track of the Racing and Equestrian Club. One More Roman was brilliantly ridden to victory by Stephen Swanepoel.
Mohammed Hussain trained Al Mazrooah (Darren Williams up) was a pillar to post winner of the Al Naama Cup. Taking a good jump, jockey Williams took Al Mazrooah to the front and made every post a winning one as he held on gamely from a fast finishing Assil.
