December Qatar Derby International Festival Features Thoroughbred and Arabian races

Qatar inviting International runners

image00516 November 2015, Doha, Qatar ~ The 2015 Qatar International Derby Festival takes place on 29 and 30 December 2015. The feature race on 29 December for Thoroughbreds is the USD $100,000 Al Rayyan Stakes for two-year old colts, geldings and fillies, run over 7 furlongs.

On 30 December the feature race for Thoroughbreds is the USD $500,000 Qatar Derby, which is for three-year old colts, geldings and fillies and is run over 1m2f.

There are also two Pure Arabian races over the two days, one for three-year olds on 29 December worth USD $100,000 and one for four-year olds on 30 December worth USD $150,000.

Entries close for the races on 1 December, 2015 with invitations to race being made within a week of the closing date. Declarations to run will be on 24 December, 2015. Shipment of invited horses will be arranged and paid for by QREC as will the travel costs of connections of overseas runners.

Nasser Al Kaabi, General Manager of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, commented: “The Qatar International Derby Festival now has some strong thoroughbred races with good prize money and travel incentives. We want to attract some international runners for both races as we evolve the race meeting.”
