As California Chrome readies for the Group 1 US$10m Dubai World Cup on Saturday, 28 March, we will issue work-out notes from the Meydan track.
Track Notes, 23 March Meydan –
Group 1 US$2m Dubai Golden Shaheen sponsored by Gulf News – 1200m (Dirt)
Big Macher (USA), entered in Group 1 US$2m Dubai Golden Shaheen appeared alongside California Chrome on the Meydan track in the darkness before 5.a.m. Looking alert, Big Macher jogged to the 1200m marker and then galloped about 1800m.
“I’m happy with that,” said trainer Richard Baltas. “He’s not a very aggressive horse and he looked around a little bit, but he went well. I think it’s good to go (to the track) early,” Baltas added. “It’s cooler and the track is tight because they put some water on it at night.”
Baltas is a good friend to Art and Alan Sherman, the father-and-son trainer team who condition California Chrome, and he said he is impressed by how well the 2014 Kentucky Derby winner has travelled and performed in his early training in Dubai.
“I hope they win and I hope my horse runs well,” Baltas said.
