Athlete Del Sol wins Wathba Stud Farm Cup in Copenhagen

Third Festival win for van den Bos-trained 7-year-old this year

Klampenborg Galopbane KøbenhavnJune 31, 2014, Copenhagen, Denmark ~ Dutch trainer Miss Karin van den Bos scored yet another win in the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup (Copenhagen Cup) race at Klampenborg in Denmark on Sunday, June 29.

Despite a heavy downpour, Athlete Del Sol under Carlos Lopez came from the outside on the right-handed track to score over Labwah under Per-Anders Graberg. W Catch Cash under Anna Pilroth was a shock third while the relatively untested Niraan under Fabienne De Geer finished fourth. Mad Makz, front runner for most of the race under jockey Fanny Olsson finished fifth.

“I am thrilled with Athlete Del Sol’s third win in the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival this year,” said  a jubilant van den Bos. “The Dormane son won the H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship race in Hoppegarten in May and on June 6th Athlete Del Sol won the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup in Stockholm. Now the 7-year-old has added the Wathba Stud Farm Cup, his third Festival win in three countries.”

Ms Lara Sawaya, Executive director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Chairman of Ladies Racing at the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) said, “The Danish fans got a taste of some top class Purebred Arabians contesting in this Wathba Stud farm Cup race and the favorites Athlete Del Sol and Labwah finished 1-2.”
