Sub Committees Formed
13 February 2015 ~ As many as 20 representatives from different parts of the world attended the Executive Committee meeting of the newly-formed International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) on Thursday, February 12, 2015, in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier in the day, IFHRA became fully official when Mr. Khalid Hussain from the UAE’s General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare confirmed the registration of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) and conveyed the greetings of HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture Youth & Community Development over the same.
Hussain confirmed and announced the official certificate of legal registration of IFHRA as the first international body with its Headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Several senior officials from key Abu Dhabi government departments were also in attendance.
Ms Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Chairman of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) headed the Executive Committee meeting as the IFHRA Chairman and aiding her was Mr. Remi Bellocq, the IFHRA Secretary and the USA representative member in the Federation.
“At the outset we will have to thank His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs for the formation of IFHRA,” she said.
Sub Committees formed
The meeting discussed several core issues apart from finalising the setting up of many sub committees which included the Academic Committee, Student Exchange Committee, Scientific Committee and Nomination Committee.
The meeting also finalized representatives from six continents.
The General Assembly meeting in January had already approved the bylaws and technical aspects of the Federation.
Norway joins Federation
Ms Lara Sawaya stated that with the admission of Norway into the Federation, Scandinavian countries’ interests have been taken care of though she felt it would be an ideal proposition to have more representatives and very soon they will include representatives from other GCC ountries.
Countries participating at the Thursday meeting included among others, the UAE, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Korea, Turkey, Puerto Rico, the United States and South Africa.
Several other issues that came under the scanner at the meeting were the creation of a ground- breaking, user-friendly website, statutes, roles of several officials, accident insurance coverage, and the importance of scientific research to help boost the morale of jockeys. The meeting also appointed two media coordinators.
It was unanimously decided that the next meeting will be held in Warsaw, Poland on the sidelines of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival’s World Arabian Horse Racing Conference which is scheduled from May 27 to June 1, 2015.
