Competition is high for Kahayla Classic win

March 26, 2014, Dubai ~ Trainer Majed Al Jahouri, 37, is enjoying a fruitful year, having now won 7 Group 1 races for Purebred Arabians for the UAE season for owner, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Mansour has not had a winner in this race since Mizzna in 2008.

Al Jahouri has trained the four horses entered for his owner in Saturday’s Dubai Kahayla Classic: Rabbah De Carrere – 5 yr-old, rated 120 (by Bibi De Carrere out of 2008 Kahayla Classic winner Mizzna); Raaziq – 5 yr-old (by Muniz out of Sheena by Djelfor), rated 119;  7 yr-old Musharab (by Njewman out of Koralya De Nerak), rated 115; and the 6 yr-old Naseem (by Mahabb out of Aryaan by Kesberoy), rated 113. Rabbah De Carrere has the chops for this race having won his last two Group 1 outings of 2200m. His draw of 15 may hinder but jockey Olivier Peslier is prepared.

Make no mistake that Qatar with two entries will be ready to keep the Qatari Flag flying at the winners circle with 2013 champion, Al Mamun Monlau, owned by Al Shaqab Racing and trained by Jean-Francois Bernard defending. The famous Franki Dettori will be at the helm and will be one to watch to make sure that the post draw of 14 is not an issue. The second entry for Qatar, Djainka Des Forges, owned by Sheikh Mohd bin Khalifa Al Thani, has a draw of 16.

In 2013 Al Mamun Monlau, under Christophe Soumillon, beat Versac PY in a tight race to the line to give owner Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad a second successive win in the 2000m race. In 2012 TM Fred Texas (Burning Sand out of Queen Kong by Kong) won the race for Qatar and Sheikh Joann under Adrie de Vries.

Versac PY (Njewman out of Elipse by Tidjani) will be back hoping to make that difference, the only entry for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
