Hamad Bin Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiya owned Bin Amer (Amer-Ismala) came up with a stunning gallop in the final furlong to win the Losail Cup,taking the win away from the Burning Sand colt, La Hoor. Majd al Uraiq came third in the Pure Arabian Conditions race, which was the main event of the 39th race day at the Racing and Equestrian Club on Thursday, March 6.
HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Rabha (Amer-x Arc De Ciel) came out of her maiden ranks in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate with a comfortable victory. The mare trained by Julian Smart was ridden to victory by jockey Harry Bentley. Al Nefor came with a late burst to finish a close third behind Masnoon.
Earlier in the opener, Jassim Ghazali schooled Qassy (Mared Al Sahra x The Wright Stuff by Burning Samd) sporting the colors of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, galloped resolutely inside the last furlong to win the Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. Making his second appearance on the racetrack, Qassy made rapid progress under jockey Yanis Aouabed and when the race took a serious turn, Ghazali’s trainee sped away from the field to win quite comfortably from Al Jeryan Stud’s duo of Al Fateh and Ghazi.
Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari owned Maksab (Hatteen x Kerra) won the Pure Arabian Graduation Plate in emphatic fashion. The five-year-old bay colt headed past the front running Kaydoum approaching the last 200 metres and stretched out easily to register a facile win. Kaydoum stayed on finishing second ahead of Al Safi and AJS Qahir.
Jaber Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber owned Mutazz (Amer x Zeinah) was given a peach of ride by Pier Convertino while annexing the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 50 and below. Racing in mid bunch until the home turn, Mutazz pounded on the front runners in the final furlong and went away to record his second win in five starts. AJS Amjad also impressed while finishing a close second.
Saeed Mubarak Al Naimi owned Seif Ennar (Amer x Fille Des Sables) came good under Italian rider Alberto Sanna to win the Local Bred Pure Arabian Graduation Plate. Maazouz and Al Majd rushed to the front together and disputed the lead until entering the home stretch. Majid Safedeen trained Seif Ennar started to improve in the last 200 metres and forged ahead with ease. Haashed also finished with a flourish, but could not get past the winner.
The trainer and jockey combination of Safedeen and Sanna went to complete a double for owner Saeed Mubarak Al Naimi when Rosso Corsa recorded a pillar to post victory in the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate. Rosso Corsa dominated his 15 rivals for the seven-furlong trip and then skipped away in the final furlong to win by two lengths from Botanica, who was unable to match strides with the winner.
Mishal Bin Ali Al Attiya owned Ohud, with Declan Cannon on board, clinched a start to finish victory in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 0 to 70. After setting the pace, Ohud was in total control in the straight and never allowed any of his eight rival to come near him. This was the third win for trainer Ghazali who is well on his way to take the championship this season.
