Majd wins Al Uraiq Cup Suwaida clinches Pure Arabian Graduation Plate

 13 February, 2014, Doha ~ The 10-event card was witness to some exciting finishes for the Racing and Equestrian Club on Thursday, February 13. One of the most thrilling  was the victory of Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari owned Sandbetweenourtoes in the Thoroughbred Conditions race run over six furlongs.

The Jassim Al Ghazali trained Footsetsinthesand progeny was brilliantly ridden by Stephen Ladjadj, while covering acres of ground before edging out Rosso Corsa in virtually the last stride of the race.

Ghazali’s other winner came through Muhim in the second division Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate.  Muhim was ridden to victory by Yanis Aouabed.  Seif Al Jazeera who tried runaway tactics was beaten close home by Muhim in another exciting affair.  sm13febGROUP

Umm Qarn’s Suwaida (Nizam x Ezraa) came up with a sterling performance to clinch Pure Arabian Graduation Plate. The Alban de Mieulle trained five-year old grey mare was confidently ridden by Italian Pier Convertino. Maazouz after setting the pace stayed on in second from the late finishing Abhar.

Zakhir Stud’s Jenjal (Af Albahar x Gold Label) made an impressive debut while claiming the Pure Arabian Maiden Plate in a thrilling contest. Another first time, Al Koufa (Burning Sand x Tohfa) came with an impressive finish towards the closing stages of the race to finish second ahead of Al Sabeg.

Jockey Golam was the other professional to record a double as he had earlier ridden Mutazz (Amer x Zeinah) to victory in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate, Moddhish and Jallad were second and third respectively.

Abdulla Mubarak Aljafali al-Naimi owned Majd with Alberto Sanna up galloped resolutely down the last furlong to score a thrilling victory in the Al Uraiq Cup, a Thoroughbred race for local horses 60 and below. Majd capped the main event of the 33rd day’s races after being attacked in the closing stages by Amirat Al Qaloob with Gary Carter astride. It was Majd’s day and Amirat Al Qaloob finished second 1/2 length behind. Umm Qarn’s Zahrah  ended up third in front of Ohud, who set the pace for the race.

 Abdulreda Abbas trained Excuse To Linger scored a thrilling victory in the Thoroughbred Graduation Plate.

12 February, 2014, QREC ~ Umm Qarn’s Waddah (Nizam x Al Hanoof) was an impressive winner of the local bred Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 60 to 90. Once in the straight, Alban de Mieulle saddled Waddah with Pier Convertino up sailed smoothly ahead and amassed a huge lead. Al Wasmiya and Al Mostarsil simply could not match up to the brilliance of Mieulle’s trainee and were never in contention once. Waddah took charge. Al Mostarsil and Al Wasmiya completed the frame.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Ghanim owned Zallal (Arawak D’Aroco x Calamare) recorded a fluent win in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 0 to 50. After racing in close proximity of the leader, Ladjadj brought Zallal into contention with a smooth run. Once shown the daylight, Zallal raced away to clinch her third win in 25 starts. Ras Al Qimmah and Sahah Al Naif disputed the run for the runner-up berth with the former prevailing by 3/4 length.

In the opening event of the day, Al Qatari (Amer x Redjila) clinched a thrilling victory over Bahi in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. Debbie Mountain trained Al Qatari finally shed his maiden status in his seventh start.
