May 10, 2013 ~ The Arabian Racing Organization is delighted to announce the return of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) to Newbury Racecourse.
Held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nayhan Global Arabian Horse Racing Festival, the race will be run on Lockinge Day, Saturday 18th May. This is a very important fixture for Newbury Racecourse and last year’s running of the race followed the incredible Frankel – the worlds highest ever rated Thoroughbred racehorse – who dominated his rivals in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes.
Veronika Aske from Norway was the victorious jockey last year on board the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Muhal, who lead home a one-two for trainer Salim Al Hakmani.
The entries for this year’s race open on Tuesday 7th May and with £20,000 prize money on offer it is the most valuable handicap in the UK calendar. This will ensure a very competitive field.
ARO is incredibly grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mansoor and his representative Lara Sawaya for their ongoing support of Arabian Racing in the UK. In addition to this race, HH Sheikh Mansoor is sponsoring two Wathba Stud Farm Cup races, also at Newbury, and 10 races throughout the year at Hereford Racecourse. The support from HH Sheikh Mansoor has made it possible to bring racing back to this popular track after it was closed at the end of last year by Arena Racing Company.
