3 August 2016, Belgium ~ The President of the UAE Cup, Gr III PA, a 1600m race, held on Monday, 1 August under the Belgian Jockey Club and supported by the Emirates Equestrian Federation brought a field of 14 starters to the racecourse at Ostend.
It was down to the wire when Al Mahdod (GB) won by a short head despite a heated battle to the finish line from stablemate Al Nashi (QA), both horses owned by Al Shaqab Racing and trained by Mme JF Bernard. Making a perfectly ordered photo finiah, the Karin van den Bos-trained Fajr Qardabiyah came a close third only a nose behind second. Al Mahdod (Munjiz) managed a compelling finish in the time of 1:55:60 under the hands of jockey F Bughenaim, winning the lion’s share of the €30,000 prize money.
