Ten in fray for Bahrain leg of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship race
15 March 2018, Manama, Bahrain ~ Ten Apprentice jockeys from around the world will compete in the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship IFHRA race to be held in Bahrain on Friday, 16 March 2018.
The race, held under the umbrella of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, will be run over 1400 metres and on the day when Bahrain hosts its richest races – the His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup races for thoroughbreds and Arabian horses.
Hosts Bahrain will be represented by two Apprentice jockeys in the race which carries a prize fund of BD 10,000. Abdul Rahim Jasim with 10 wins from 100 rides will be on Al Hamdany 1697 while his countryman Ahmed Maki, who has 14 wins from over 350 starts, will be on Al Jellaby 1683.
The other Apprentice jockeys and their horses are Ireland’s Laura Coughlan on AL HAMDAANY 1680, Belgium’s Loid Bekaert on MLOLSHAN 1649, Hungary’s Alexandria Bihari on AL MUSANNAH 1662, Zimbabwe’s Jordan Uys on KUHEILAAN AAFAS 1695, UK’s Shirley Birkett on AL JELLABY 1656, Jameer Allyhosain from Mauritius on AL MA’ANAGHY 1693, Alejandra Gutierrez from Spain on AL JELLABY 1698 and Silja Storen from Norway on AL JELLABY 1661.
Hungary’s Alexandria Bihari, Alejandra Gutierrez from Spain and Belgium’s Loid Bekaert have all won races in the 2017 HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship IFHRA series.
Ms. Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, General Manager of Wathba Stallions, Chairperson of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA), Chairperson of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) said, “It is a matter of great pride for the HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival to see our HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship IFHRA race being held alongside the His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup races.”
“This is the second race of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship IFHRA series this year, the first one being held in Oman. We wish all the jockeys the best of luck and also thank the Bahrain Horse Racing officials for their hospitality and support,” Ms. Sawaya said.
The winner of each of these races will qualify for the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship final to be held in Abu Dhabi in November.
