20 September 2017, Al Ain, UAE ~ Top trainer Danny Murphy, who has saddled more than 1000 winners during a distinguished career, is the latest name to set up base at Al Ain Racecourse. Irish-born Murphy will train primarily for Farook Racing, and currently has 13 horses in his care, all Thoroughbreds.
“I’m very happy to be here,” said the 55-year-old, who arrives in the UAE after successful stints in Macau, Singapore and Malaysia. “I’ll be training for Farook Racing and Ali Farook is my Racing Manager. Everyone has been very welcoming, the facilities are great and I’m looking forward to getting started. I’ve been here since July so my horses will be fit for the start of the season.
“At the moment I have all Thoroughbreds, several of whom are un-raced. I have five two-year-olds, including a very nice two-year-old Scat Daddy filly who I am looking forward to running. We also have several older horses, including General Marshall that we purchased out of Mike De Kock’s yard.”
Faisal Al Rahmani, Course Director of Al Ain Racecourse, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Danny Murphy to Al Ain. The course has proved over the last few years that it is an excellent base for training racehorses, and we wish Danny the best of luck in continuing that tradition.”
Murphy has already experienced success in the UAE. During his time in Singapore he owned and trained Terfel, winner of the Derrinstown Stud Handicap at Nad Al Sheba in February 2005, ridden by John Egan.
Al Ain Racecourse, one of five flat racetracks in the UAE, opened its doors in January 2014 and will shortly begin its fourth season of racing. The course, located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, stages 10 meetings in the 2017-18 season, opening its doors on Friday, November 24th.
