13 August 2017, Ostend, Belgium ~ After Saturday’s great success for the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Racing Festival in the inaugural UAE Abu Dhabi Day held at Chelmsford City Racecourse, the action shifts to the Ostend Racecourse, Hippodrome Wellington, in Belgium on Monday, 14 August 2017.

The Festival’s Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, a Group 3 race has attracted a small but quality field for the 1800-metre turf contest with a prize fund of €35,000.

Chalwa du Breuil under Loid Bekaert, My First General under Jean-Baptiste Hamel, Worood under Stephen Breux, Naziq under Richard Mullen, LightFeet under St. Hellyn, Al Mounteze Monlau under Roberto-Carlos Montenegro are the runners and riders in this premier race.

All eyes will be on Loid Bekaert, the Belgian Apprentice, already qualified for the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) November final in Abu Dhabi after winning the German leg recently. He now faces a tough task as some top horses and jockeys are in the 6-horse line-up.

Ostend will also play host to the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) race where lady jockey gets another chance to win and qualify for the November Abu Dhabi finals in the €30,000 1,000 m turf race.

Ten horse and jockey combinations are in the fray: Le Jason under E. Finckenhagen, Lou Raynal under Monique Lubcke, Sartejano under Joana Wyrzyk, Storm Trouper under Anne Engels, Nero DA under S. Ahern, Mulhim under Polet Nagy, Mirna under Rosie Jessop, Sheimah Qardabiyah under Cindy Klinkenberg, Demona under Beatrioz Alonso, Raya C under Tina Enriksson.

Owner-trainer Beverly Deutrom will be looking to make it two wins in three days with Storm Troupour. Storm Trouper had won the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) UK stage race of 7 F or 1400 metres on Saturday, 12 August, ridden by 24 year-old Milly Naseb, representing Jordan. He should be able to shoulder the reduced distance.
