Shadwell Arabian Stallion Stakes, My First General

10 July 2017, Holland ~ The Shadwell Arabian Stallions Stakes, one of the final round of DIAR Prep over 2150m, went the way of the imposing grey, My First General, at Duindigt, Holland, on Sunday, 9 July 2017, under clear skies.

The Alban de Mieulle-trained four-year-old will head to Newbury in three weeks. A target at Newbury will be set for the colt in the next few days.

Swedish raider Jaldi Karo beat Lightning Bolt in a pulsating finish to win the second Listed PA race on the card, the Dubai International Arabian Races Stakes. Swedish trainer Maria Hagman-Eriksson said after the race that she expects to take the six-year-old to Newbury for DIAR day. A race is yet to be decided.

Kim Augenbroe also made a worthwhile trip from Sweden, picking up the first race, the DIAR 2017 International Sprint Stakes, with Sheimah Qarbabiyah. The seven-year-old mare will be one of two horses from Augenbroe’s yard coming to Newbury.

Jamas D.A. ran out the easy winner of the No Risk Al Maury Stakes and is also set to make the trip to Newbury in three weeks’ time for Belgium-based owner-breeder-trainer Peter Deckers.

The first three home in each of the four Arabian races qualify for the bonus scheme at Newbury on Sunday 30th July. If a qualified horse wins at Newbury, they will land a bonus on top of the stated prize money.

Shadwell Stud director Richard Lancaster was in attendance at Duindigt and said: “Today’s races have been hugely competitive and full of quality. It is fantastic that owners and trainers have brought their horses from all over Europe, their support is greatly valued. It is also good news that the winner of each of the four races are coming to Newbury. We look forward to the day with great anticipation and excitement.”
