2017 White Turf St. Moritz – A White Hot Passion for racing

St. Moritz frozen lake racing on Sundays- 12, 19 and 26 February 2017

30 January 2017, St. Moritz, Switzerland ~ This year’s first White Turf race day on 12 February on the ice cover of the Lake at St. Moritz (currently 55 cm thick/ 2 +-feet), promises top-class equestrian sport. In all, 72 entrants are registered for the seven races scheduled, compared with only 53 twelve months ago.

The St. Moritz race days include Thoroughbred gallop races, Trotting races, Skikjöring, and Arabian racing.

Arabians race on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, 12 and 26 February 2017. The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup with a purse of 38,500 Swiss francs is the biggest prize race on the opening day of White Turf. Ten entries have been received for this mile test and will come from the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland, among them last year’s winner Nil Kamla.

On the final day (26 February 2017), the H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship
(IFAHR) will take place. In this race with a purse of 33,000 Swiss francs, lady jockeys from around the world will compete in the second of the 14 race series.

White Turf CEO Silvio Martin Staub said: “We are more than satisfied with the number of entrants. “Registrations have arrived from five nations – proof that our international collaborations are bearing fruit. From a sporting point of view too, we will already attain a very high level of competition on our first race Sunday.”
