4 November 2016, Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie, Texas ~ It was Jerenesto Torrez night as the trainer accepted awards for the 4 winners at the second running of the Shadwell Dubai International Races Day at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Texas, on 4 November.
The evening of racing outside of Dallas took on a party flavor as guests came from the four corners of the Untied States to see top Arabian racing, enjoy dinner and the camaraderie of friends and clients in the mild Texas evening.
RB Madymoiselle connections
Shadwell Arabian Stallions Texas Distaff Stakes -1 Mile $30,000
Favorite RB Madymoiselle did not disappoint and Rosebrook Arabians took their second turn of the evening in the winner’s circle in the Shadwell Arabian Stallions Texas Distaff Stakes, making it a double after an earlier win for jockey Keiber Coa.
The bay filly by Majd Al Arab typically does not take the lead but stretches out towards the business end. This mile trip was no different as the four-year-old campaigner broke from stall three, going three wide at the turn, and asserting herself in the back stretch to win. Pams Masquerade under Edgar Velasco chased home but settled for second as Hesster finished third.
In 2016 RB Madymoiselle traveled from California to Texas to Delaware and back to Texas, ending the season with 12 starts, 6 wins, 4 seconds, 1 third and $136,843 in earnings.
“She’s had a rough campaign, said owner Dianne Waldron. “She’s been all over the country and she gives her all every time. She’s run week after week against boys and girls. My heart goes out to her; this horse is one of my most special ever. She’s nearest and dearest to my heart.”
Waldron, who has been involved with horses since 1983 when she rode endurance, shared her birthday weekend with her daughter and five grandchildren that she brought from Florida.

Easter Man
Joe and Betty Gillis capped the evening with their second trip to the winner’s circle, this time with Easter Man, the favorite on the starter’s line for this mile and 1/16 trip.
The 4-year-old grey left from stall three following Kafo to the 1/4 pole with Chndakaexpress in hot pursuit. Taking first at the half-way mark, the the Burning Sand colt never eased off under the hands of Ivan Arellano, knowing Chndakaexpress was eager to take advantage. Kafo, first in the Allowance race for a smaller trip a week ago, settled in for third.

Easter Man finishes the year with 8 starts, 4 firsts, 1 second and 2 thirds and $82,735 in winnings, giving trainer Jerenesto Torrez his fourth success of the evening.

Winning trainer Torrez goes into the final 2016 races with 127 starts, 22 firsts, 19 seconds, 12 thirds and earnings of $284,409. Though this is alone impressive, his career stats since 1991 indicate 3,058 starts, 423 firsts,406 seconds, 407 thirds, and earnings of $4,226,677.

Ruby AA Award
Before this early race, www.shadwellarabian.co.uk Texas Lone Star Futurity, favorite, RB Kinkie shared status with the Burning Sand filly, Ruby AA. Coming out of stall four, the Ivan Arellano backed Ruby AA met the challenge, quickly taking the lead and controlling the 6 Furling race from the start. With two runners scratched, this left a nice piece of the $22,000 prize money for owners Betty and Joe Gillis, and the first win of the evening for trainer Jerenesto Torrez. RB Kinkie finished second and Madjic Vaz was third.

DIAR Texas Lone Star Futurity $20,000

Rosebrook Farms Arabians and Dianne Waldron earlier enjoyed their first win of the evening in the DIAR Texas Lone Star Futurity as RB Nash took the win under jockey Keiber Coa. Setting the pace under pressure in this 6 Furlong race, RB Nash flew out of stall six pressured by stablemate RB Open Fire. The Nashwan Al Khalidiah 3-year-old colt responded and sped for home in the stretch leaving RB Open Fire with second. Quick Sand, bumped hard at the start, finished third.
Jockey Keiber Coa said of his first win of the evening: “They wanted me to lead but I had a bit of interference and it was my first time on this horse. He did run his race, just as they said.”

SHADWELL SPONSORSHIP
The is Shadwell’s second year to bring their sponsorship to Arabian racing in Texas. Shadwell Stud Director, Richard Lancaster, welcomed the 60 + guests, trainers and owners to the evening’s racing and dinner. He recognized that many had come from a long way and thanked them for helping to make Arabian racing the success that is deserves. Grand Prairie Mayor, Ron Jensen, also welcomed guests to the track for the second year.
Guests had arrived for this special weekend from many states including California, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas as well as from Victoria, B.C. The Shadwell team flew in from England for the race.
The weekend continued with an Open House at Mandolynn Hill Farm and a presentation of Stallions standing for breeding at the farm including the winning Arabian lines of Shadwell’s two stallions Chndaka and Kaolino, along with some of the their babies.
Among the top stallions shown available for 2017 was newly arrived 2013 Darley Champion Horse of the Year, So Big is Better (Burning Sand x WW MIRROR IMAGE, by ZT ALI BABA) and Darley Champion 4-Year-Old Colt, Darley Champion Older Horse, Grilla (Kong ex Dixie Darlene (Wiking).
Guests were entertained with music, Texas Barbecue, and a wonderful tour of the Texas farm, stallions, mares and babies.
