The purses are large and the racing is hot as US horses race in Turkey
26 August 2015, Istanbul, Turkey ~ Top Arabian horse talent will join five Thoroughbred races for International Races Day at Veliefendi Race Course along the Bosphorus in Istanbul on 5 and 6 September.
International IFAHR Trophy G2 will run on 5 September – a 2100m race on synthetic track for 3 yrs old and upwards, WAHO registered domestic and foreign Purebred Arabians with at least four generations of parents identified as of 2011 backwards.
A total purse of €76,500 total purse / €45.000 to the winner guarantees the crowd of international guests a show.

The 2015 International Malazgirt Trophy G1 on 6 September continues the excitement with a race for 3 years old and up, WAHO registered domestic and foreign Purebred Arabians with at least four generations of parents identified as of 2011 backwards. This race is 1600 meters on turf with a purse of €110.500 / €65.000 to the winner.

The first International Race attended by runners from abroad was the Istanbul Stakes G2 in 1990. The winner was the Yugoslavian Thoroughbred named Magrana (Hagley x Miss Anagram by Olden Times) with jockey Pall Kallaj. In 1991 there were five international Races for Thoroughbred with a good participation of foreign horses. That year Lester Piggott won the International Topkapi Trophy G2 with Lucky Guest (Be My Guest x Gay Fantasy).
In 1999, The Malazgirt Trophy G1 for Purebred Arabians was run as an International race for the first time; the winner was Mrs. Nurbiye Gulerce’s Cas (Albatur x Mahsuse 42). The International Bosphorus Cup G2 and the International Topkapi Trophy earned black type status in 2003 and in 2009 they were promoted to be part of the International Cataloguing Standards Book. In 2013 the International Istanbul Trophy G3 was promoted Part I of the International Cataloguing Standards Book.
The Jockey Club of Turkey has been organizing International Races in Ankara and Istanbul from 2008 with international races organized as an International Racing Festival over two consecutive days in the first weekend of September. The 2015
International Racing Festival will be held on 5 and 6 September with total purse of 1,538.500 Euros to be distributed in 7 races. International Races will be run under floodlights at the Istanbul Veliefendi Racecourse.
