Taraf, Al Anga, Bahia Du Barthas dominate HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy Day
15 January 2014, Doha ~ H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Taraf (Burning Sand x Gethaabah) saddled by Julian Smart posted an emphatic victory in the QR one million HH Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy, a Local Bred Pure Arabian race, which featured the eight-event card at the Racing and Equestrian Club Thursday, January 15. Sporting the colors of Al Shahania, Taraf, under the hands of Tadhg O’Shea galloped on resolutely in the final furlong to come from the mid position and pass all the top contenders in full flight to win by one and quarter lengths over Kassam.
H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Al Anga (Amer x Kerbelle Du Loup) was ably ridden by William Lee to a thrilling victory in the HH Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Thani Cup, a Pure Arabian race for four-year olds. Alban de Mieulle trained TM Thunder Struck and the Julian Smart trained Al Anga fought out the issue stride for stride in the final 100 metres before the latter got stronger at the finish to win by a short head.
In a keen tussle for supremacy, Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari owned Bahia Du Barthas (Dahess x Jabala El Derkouch) kept aside the challenge of stable mates Samjida, Kimfalah, and Al Fakhamah to prevail by a short head and win the HH Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Thani Silver Cup. The Jassim Al Ghazali trained Bahia Du Barthas was ridden to victory by Jockey JP Guilliambert.
Sheail Bin Khalifa Al Kuwari’s Ain Jalout clinched his first career win with a start to finish victory in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. Making his debut, the Ghazali schooled Ain Jalout (Af Albahar x Fahouara) with JP Guilliambert astride led the way to win by one and three fourth lengths over Naamah. Wafa and Refael finished third and fourth respectively.
Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki owned and trained Crafted was brilliantly ridden by Gerald Avranche to victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 60 to 80.
A thrilling finish was witnessed in the Thoroughbred Conditions race Pay Freeze with Oliver Peslier up staved off the spirited challenge of Hearts of Stone to win by short head.
Injaaz Stud’s Uleavemebreathless with Stephen Ladjadj at the helm clinched the Thoroughbred Conditions race.
Mishal Bin Ali Al Attiya owned Al Hareth won the Local Thoroughbred Conditions race with a start to finish effort under jockey Harry Bentley.
