Al Atique wins Qatar National Day Trophy Group II

16 December 2014, Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club ~ H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Al Atique (Amer x Somra) saddled by Julian Smart posted a thrilling victory in the Qatar National Day Trophy, a Group II race for Pure Arabians at the Racing and Equestrian Club on Tuesday, 16 December. Al Atique galloped on gamely in the home stretch to win with start to finish tactics. Vetlana De Faust came with a spirited bid but found the winner unrelenting. Aziz Al Shahania was a close third. Jockey Alberto Senna rode a well judged race on the winner, which took his second win of the season.

H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Kassam (Burning Sand x Mahmoona) posted a thrilling victory in The Late Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani Cup. The Jassim Al Ghazali trained Kassam overtook Taraf in the shadow of the winning post. Jockey Guilliambert was astride the winner. Al Mizan finished third ahead of Fauladh.

Shiekh Nasser Bin Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani’s Haraz AL Naif (Amer x Heff De Faust) shed his maiden status under Gerald Avranche in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. The four-year-old grey colt raced a handy third-fourth position before stretching out impressively inside the last furlong to win by five lengths. Sharsaa Al Naif chased the winner to finish second ahead of Dheram Al Naif.

H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Arraab (Amer x Cath) came with a ground devouring run in the final furlong to overhaul the front runner and win the Pure Arabian Graduation Plate. The Ghazali schooled Arraab was ridden to victory by jockey Harry Bentley. Desar Al Naif and Raghed finished third and fourth respectively.

Abdulaziz Ali Al Qhathiri owned and trained Screenshot clinched a thrilling victory over Dark Leopard and Bon Voyage in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate.  under jockey Marco Monteriso.

Jassim Mohamed Al Gazali & Sons owned Substantiate kept aside the challenge of Hi Holy and Pure Amber prevailed by a short head to win the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 60 to 80 under jockey Yanis Aouabed.

Khalil Mansoor Khalil Al Shahwani owned Pay Freeze rallied strongly to beat Alsefra and Gull Rock close home in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 75 to 95 under jockey Yanis Aouabed.

Hassan Ali Abdulmalik owned Right To Dream ran on strongly inside the last 100 metres to win the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 85 and above.

Shiekh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Thani Al owned Sahaba Al Uraiq (AF Albahar x Kerina) broke through the maiden ranks with a dominating performance in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Plate. The  Mohammed Riyaz schooled three-year-old grey filly was ridden confidently by jockey Declan Cannon to a start to finish victory. Sirat Al Naif and Nazala Al Naif took the second and third places respectively.

Hassan Ali Hassan Al Matwi owned and trained Istara (Akbar x Shebaa) put in a gallant display while shedding his maiden status with a fluent win in the Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. Istara was taken to the front and as the field straightened out for home Istara stretched away nicely and later warded off the late challenge from Meghwaar to win by a three fourth length.

Abdullah Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber owned Al Mostarsil (Manguier De Piboul x Kesbes De Chaillac) was ridden to victory by jockey Marvin Suerland in the Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 50 to 80. The Abdullah Al Jaber trained Al Mostarsil held on gamely to win by a neck from a Hassiba. Nomaas and Al Jeali finished third and fourth respectively.

In a thrilling contest, H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani owned Rabha (Amer x Arc De Ciel) was ridden to victory by jockey O’Shea in the Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 60 and below. The Jullian Smart trained Rabha held on gamely to win by a head from a Ladys Sandman while Al Nefor and TM Tasha Tiki finished third and fourth respectively.

Al Jeryan Stud’s Aseer came up with a dazzling display while clinching the Local Thoroughbred, Al Dibal Cup under jockey Tadgh O’Shea.

Al Murqab Stud’s Pearl Bridge was an impressive winner of the Thoroughbred Conditions race, taking on the 1800m with a smooth finish.  Pearl Bridge guided by Marvin Suerland tracked  the leader from the start shifting gears cleanly in the last 200 metres to forge ahead of One Cool Bex to record his fourth win in 11 starts. Pearl Bridge won 11 December in the 1400m Fegentri Gentleman’s Condition race.

Khalfan Mohammed Ali Sheban Al Suwaidi owned Archers Prize won comfortably in the Thoroughbred Conditions race to make a double for jockey Marvin Suerland. 

Hussain Ali Bukanan owned Emaad was a pillar to post winner of the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 55 to 75 and it was a great day for jockey Marvin Suerland.
