13 October 4, Santo Domingo, Chile ~Two Young Riders recently represented the US at the 120km CEIYJ2** endurance ride held in Santo Domingo, Chile on 4 October. The riders were hosted by Pedro Pablo Gomez and were mounted on horses from his stable, Establos El Shaalan. Chef d’Equipe for USA Endurance Emmett Ross has this report.
Technical Course
“USA Young Rider Emilyn DiBassie finished 11th and did an excellent job along with Christina Kimery, who was pulled going into the last and 5th loop due to a slight lameness. The trainer for Al-Shaalan, Pedro Pablo Gomez, said her horse, CL Isfahan, looked fine the next day.”
“The course was fairly technical with fairly rocky parts in places; very similar to the trail our senior team did at the Pan Am’s in late 2011 and which will be the same for the Jr/Young Riders World’s in 2015. Both USA riders accomplished their goals of seeing the course which will come in handy should they be chosen to represent the USA in late Oct 2015. The last loop that Christina did not see was a combination of parts of the previous four which she did ride. Both our riders were part of a group of four Young Riders supported by Pedro Pablo’s stableEl Shaalan. The four young riders were: Emilyn DiBassie and Chrsitina Kimery, Victoria Boderg (Sweden) and Oriana Ricca (Uruguay). The young ladies rode together all day as per instruction. The experience was good for all. There also were young riders from Brazil and Mexico. (29 Young Riders were entered in the 120 km ride and 18 finished).
“Our hosts, Pedro Pablo and Ximena Merino were fabulous. The Chilean Endurance director, Cristian Herrara, was also very cordial and helpful. This bodes well for the 2015 event.”
Both Emilyn and Christina were accompanied by their mothers – Michele DiBassie and Gail Kimery.
