In this discipline, daredevil lady and men drivers on skis are pulled over a distance of 2,700m by riderless thoroughbreds galloping across the frozen lake. It requires courageous skills, excellent physical condition, skiing proficiency and sensitive handling of the noble race horses – and, of course, top performance. Finally, the person who collects the highest number of points on all three race Sundays can rejoice in being awarded for one year the title of ‘King of the Engadine’!
Arabian Racing thanks to HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival
The worldwide reputation of the White Turf is proved by the two exclusive Arabian races that are now firmly established among the race events of the White Turf after their successful premieres in the last two years. At the H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup, the best pure-bred Arabian horses at St. Moritz will compete for victory in a breath-taking gallop race on ice, whilst the H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) will be the most important, and with a purse of 35,000 Swiss Francs ($36,155 USD). “This tremendous commitment of the Arabian racing stables is a great honour for our event,” emphasized White Turf CEO Silvio M. Staub.
Through the cooperation agreement with the Berlin-Hoppegarten and Mauritius racecourses, the persons responsible for the White Turf have succeeded in continuously enhancing the attractiveness of the International Horseraces on ice. It is primarily the sport that forms the basis for the mutual and fruitful cooperation, but art and tourism are also part of it. For instance, since the Grand Prix White Turf St. Moritz took place for the fourth time this year in Berlin-Hoppegarten, the Grand Prix of the Berlin-Hoppegarten racecourse will greatly contribute on the third 2015 race Sunday to enhance the White Turf racing events.
